Significance of ICT Infrastructure Development for Students to Receive Distance Education and thus Reduce the Cost of Education

Abstract

Technology is very dynamic and universities in Uganda cannot cope with these changes in terms of cost and relevancy yet applications of ICT is important I ensuring quality DL. This study thus recommend mobilization of resources by government to establish infrastructure that would support application of technology in the provision of DL. The study established that internet access and affordability was a challenge in the management of DL. The study recommends that government establishes a national grid specifically for educational purpose where institution would access internet that is cheap for students. ICT infrastructures were found inadequate in the universities that took part in the study. The study recommends that institutions in Uganda with the help of the government and other stake holders get together to mobilize resources to facilitate the ICT infrastructure which will enable the learning of DL efficiently.
